Games on Demand will be returning to Gen Con again this year as a premiere event! We’re very excited to be able to offer an array of our favorite games and share them with you. If you’ll be at the show, please drop by to connect with other players, choose from a menu of rules-light, story-rich RPGs and small-scale LARPs and get playing!
What’s Different About GoD This Year?
This year the event will be in the Marriott hotel instead of the convention center, and we will only be accepting generic tickets. We’ll also have more space, a better seating process, more diversity, family-oriented gaming, and freeform larps on demand!
Why Did the Location Change?
Because of the massive swell in attendance at this year’s Gen Con, every space is in short supply. The convention center filled up quickly and we opted to move to the Marriott (just across the Maryland St skywalk from the food court) in order to get a larger space of our own. Our hope is that the ballroom will give us plenty of space to meet demand at peak times.
Why Switch to Generic-only Tickets?
Games on Demand will be an all-generics event this year, meaning that there is no pre-registration available. Every 2-hour session will require one generic ticket, or a ticket from another event of equivalent value.
The purpose of the change is to simplify the process of choosing a game and getting a seat. Removing registration allows us to set aside priority seating and serve every player on a first-come-first-serve basis. We also have plans in the works to make the boarding process as smooth as possible and keep lines short
Indie Games on Demand at Origins
We Want You!
Origins Game Fair in Columbus Ohio (happening June 11-15th) is our favorite game convention of the year. Why?
It’s super laid back and fun, and you actually get to hang out with people, eat delicious Columbus food and drink delicious Columbus drinks, and play all of your favorite indie games with all my favorite indie people without running around like mad like at a gigantic convention like Gencon.
Evan Torner, Jim Crocker, and Kira Magrann are organizing Indie Games on Demand again this year!
Here’s what we’ll have this year:
– A new streamlined signup process
– An amazing team of GMs and players
– The hot new small press and independently designed games you want to try
– Support for people new to gaming and GMing
– Jeni’s Ice cream
– The awesomeness that is the indie/storygaming/people that like edgy and new games community
We could use your help!

Thanks friends! Game on!
Dreamation 2014 is being held in Morristown, NJ from February 20-February 23, 2014. The convention page is: http://www.dexposure.com/d2014.html
This will be the tenth annual Indie Games Explosion at Dreamation. Since 2005 we have presented one of the finest slates of scheduled events, including indie RPGs and American freeform games. We have grown from hosting fewer than two dozen events in 2005 to nearly a hundred in recent years.
Here’s the link to the current schedule of events, which includes details on how to register to run games: http://ipressgames.com/igx/pmwiki.php?n=Dream14.Schedule
We are still accepting new events until January 10, 2014. GMs who run at least two events get a free badge to the convention. Hope to see lots of faces both new and old!
The Escapist Expo has come and gone too quickly! We played a lot of games, attended panels, and ate great Durham food.
Games on Demand stayed busy, with tables full most of the day on Saturday. We had 10 awesome volunteers covering 24 hours of games on 4 tables. By the end, the team had run 27 full games or demos for around 100 people. Here’s the list of games that were run:
5 x 13th Age
4 x Fiasco
3 x Infinite Earths
2 x Astropocalypse
2 x Carolina Death Crawl
2 x Quiet Year
2 x Tenra Bansho Zero
1 x Beyond the Wall
1 x Cortex+ Chronotrigger
1 x Dungeon World
1 x Fate Core – Fight Fire
1 x Land of Yeld
1 x Shinobigami
1 x Torchbearer
Thanks to all of the volunteers who brought their enthusiasm to the event, and to all the players who joined us, many for their first experience with tabletop RPGs. Finally, many thanks to the Escapist staff for putting together the Expo and inviting us to join in on the fun!
Games on Demand is coming to the Escapist Expo in Durham, NC! The show is happening October 4-6 and GoD will be running games in the “Meeting Room” at the Durham Convention Center. Here’s the listing from the program:
Come check out the newest and best from the brightest minds in roleplaying game design, all run by a crew of dedicated volunteers. You can swing by the Meeting Room at any time to jump into a game. Newbies and experienced players alike are welcome.
More news (including the official hours and game menus) coming soon. If you’re in the area, drop by and join us to play some great games!
Gen Con 2013 has come and gone, and since then the Games on Demand team has been busy organizing data and making plans for next year. To help that process, we’d like to get some information from those of you who came to the event and played games with us! If you’d like to give us your feedback, we encourage you to come fill out our survey:
As you answer the questions, please bear in mind that Games on Demand is an all-volunteer event put together for you for free by enthusiastic people who love games. Keeping your comments focused and constructive will be a huge help to us!
If you didn’t attend to the event this year, or if you are one of our volunteers, please hold off on filling out this form for now. Thanks!
Gen Con 2013 is now only one week away, and our Games on Demand event this year will be bigger and better than ever! The event will be held in the Convention Center on the second floor overlooking the Exhibitor Hall in room 237. We’ll be running games from 10am-midnight on Thursday through Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. Come play with us!
If you’d like to print copies of this map to hand out, take this 2-up version, and our thanks!
The Game Directory for Origins
Is here! This is a list, although not exhaustive, of games we’ll be featuring at Indie Games on Demand at Origins. Take a look see!
Most certainly there’s games not on this list that our GMs would be interested in running. If you’re curious about something you’ve heard of but it’s not on this list, just ask. Also, not all GMs can run all games. Although that would be an amazing feat, we are limited by the games we enjoy and know how to run.
Somewhat belatedly, here are the stats we gathered during the Games on Demand event at PAX East 2013. Overall it was a very popular event and we stayed busy most of the time. We started each day a little later than last year (around 2pm) and ran until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
In that time, we ran roughly 99 games for 443 players over the 26 hours or so that we were open. We had 21 official volunteers, but we were joined on the ground by other great, enthusiastic friends who helped us hold down the host table and fill in the gaps in our schedule.
Here are the games run over the whole event, ordered by frequency:
