Origins 2016 – Two Weeks Away!

The Origins Games Fair is held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center
in Columbus, Ohio. Known for it’s friendly mid-west atmosphere, Origins is an absolute blast every year. In 2016 it will be held June 15th – 19th.

The event will take place in the Hyatt-Fairfield room and will run in three sessions each day, from 9am-1pm, 2pm-6pm, and 8pm-midnight on Thursday through Saturday and 9am-1pm on Sunday. There will be LARPs on Demand as well, which are detailed in the main event book!

Stop by with 2 generics per 4 hour game, or buy tickets for timed slots ahead of time. If you want to see what’s on the menu, stop by about 10 minutes before each session and you’ll see what games you’ll have the ability to demand from our talented and friendly GMs. No games are guaranteed to run, but we try our hardest to offer the newest small press games out there!

What games can you expect to see? Here’s a list of likely suspects: Continue reading

The Indie+ team organized a Google Hangout panel discussion about Games on Demand. It aired live on Sep 19, 2015 and featured Rich Rogers moderating a conversation with Kristin Firth, Evan Torner, Renee Knipe, Ross Cowman, Natalie Holt, and Steve Segedy.

“At big cons like GenCon, Origins and PAX, as well as little gaming conventions, brave souls organize and sign up to run games on demand. Why do they do this thing? How do they pull it off?”

Origins 2015 Games on Demand: By the Numbers

This is a repost of Nathan Paoletta‘s excellent summary of the Origins 2015 data

Games on Demand is a volunteer effort and transparency is one of our values! The organizing committee for Origins is still working through our internal conversation before opening up a formal feedback survey, but for now, here’s the numbers.

Overall Numbers
We seated 463 players in 103 games with a staff of 36 GMs (including non-game-facilitating Hosts).

Last year we seated 457 players in 101 games with a staff of 44 GMs.

A slight increase in butts in seats, but with that lower staff count we’re pretty sure that means that we served an appreciable amount of new faces! Anecdotally this seemed to be the case. We also saw a lot of groups come through who all wanted to play a game together. Continue reading
